Salesforce Agentforce: what the vendor actually publishes

The Short Answer

Salesforce's agent layer over its own CRM, sold on consumption (Flex Credits or Conversations) or per user, with unmetered add-ons for employee-facing agents.

What is Salesforce Agentforce?

Salesforce Agentforce is a CRM-native platform for building and running autonomous AI agents over Salesforce data, sold on consumption through Flex Credits or Conversations, or per user.

Agentforce is the agent tier of the Salesforce platform. Salesforce sells it four ways and expects buyers to mix them: consumption pricing through Flex Credits or per-Conversation billing for customer-facing agents, and per-user licensing for employee-facing agents through add-ons or the Agentforce 1 editions. Usage is tracked in a product Salesforce calls Digital Wallet.

Where it runs: The Salesforce platform — Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Field Service and the Industries clouds. Salesforce also lists Agentforce in Slack.

What can Salesforce Agentforce do?

Each entry below appears on Salesforce’s own site or documentation. Nothing has been inferred from a category description or a third-party review.

Flex Credits

A pooled unit of payment drawn down per Action. "Agentforce actions are 20 Flex Credits, while Agentforce Voice actions are 30 Flex Credits."

Actions

"A specific function that an AI agent executes on the platform, such as updating a record, summarizing a complex case, answering a product inquiry, or executing a custom prompt or flow".

Digital Wallet

Near real-time consumption tracking with threshold alerts and usage trends.

Buying models

Pre-Purchase (pay upfront, draw down), Pre-Commit (baseline commitment, billed monthly in arrears, true-up at term end) and PayGo (no upfront commitment).

Agentforce User License$5 USD/user/monthCompany-wide employee access. Requires Flex Credits. "Access to limited Salesforce CRM objects".

The per-user prices sit on top of the underlying Salesforce licences, and the $5 and consumption tiers explicitly require a Flex Credit balance. Modelling total cost requires both numbers.

How does Salesforce Agentforce score against the nine criteria?

The same nine criteria are applied to every platform profiled here, and compared side by side in the manufacturing benchmark. Salesforce publishes an answer for 3 of 9. The remainder are marked “Not published” rather than guessed.

That count measures how much Salesforce writes down, not how good the product is. A vendor whose marketing pages name every capability scores higher here than one publishing narrow technical documentation. The evidence column is the part worth reading — it says whether an answer is a documented capability or a named feature with nothing published behind it.

Where does Salesforce Agentforce do well?

  • The most transparent consumption rate card of the six — unit price, credits per action, and worked monthly examples are all published.
  • Deepest automation over Salesforce's own CRM data, with record updates as a first-class metered Action.
  • Three buying models (Pre-Purchase, Pre-Commit, PayGo) let a buyer start without an upfront commitment.
  • Digital Wallet gives near real-time consumption visibility, which matters because the pricing is metered.

What are the limits of Salesforce Agentforce?

  • Cost is genuinely hard to forecast. At 20 Credits per action and $500 per 100k Credits, a single rep running 20 requests a day is a published $120/month example — before the underlying Salesforce licence.
  • Nothing manufacturing-specific is published at the Agentforce layer. Catalogue, quoting and margin work sit in separately licensed products.
  • Salesforce publishes no implementation time.
  • The pricing page carries an explicit "subject to change" disclaimer, so any model built from it has a shelf life.
Skip it if: Your customer, pricing and inventory data does not already live in Salesforce, or you need a predictable annual cost rather than a metered one.
